Some Thoughts to End On
Capoeira at Purdue is brought together by the appreciation of the culture and tradition that was established hundreds of years ago. To this day, music plays a vital role in the art, as do the uses of the Portuguese language within practices and rodas. Terms of endearment are given to capoeristas who hone their sport, and many times these are given through the form of apelidos, or nicknames. Though none of the members of Purdue Capoeira (aside from the instructors) have apelidos, ranks within the club do form; generally these are due to levels of skill and amount of practice.
As A CommunityAs a community, Purdue Capoeira remains unique through its consideration of the roots of Brazilian capoeira, as well as its use of the music that would traditionally be taught using strict lessons and discipline.

Final Remarks
An interesting aspect of this research was that a group of college students, most of whom are white males from Indiana, can come together and form such a pocket of culture. The music and language provides the spine by which the community of Purdue Capoeira can stand.
